Are you pregnant or have you recently given birth and you are currently breastfeeding your baby?

With all the responsibilities, preparations, and excitement of being a mom, you find yourself thinking more and more about doing something for yourself to feel better. In your free time, you browse social media filled with photos of women's transitions. Among the mass of services like Botox, dermal fillers, microdermabrasion, and laser hair removal, your attention was captured by beautiful permanent lips and eyebrows. They are not exaggerated or too dark, they give the impression of delicately emphasised natural eyebrows and lips. You see how the technique has changed and more and more of your friends are persuading you to get permanent makeup, saying it's the best thing they could ever do.

Can I get permanent makeup while pregnant/breastfeeding?

Of course, pregnancy is not a disease, but you can never be too careful. Remember that when you are pregnant, first of all, you should take care of your and your baby's safety and health, and during pigmentation, the body's immunity decreases. Pregnancy is not a good time to perform any invasive procedures. There is a risk of infection after the procedure - it is necessary to implement treatment. When you are pregnant, your immunity is already lowered, so the risk of complications or infections increases relatively. In addition, at this time, your hormonal and diabetic economy is not stable, which may affect the pigmentation effect.

Remember that during the procedure anaesthetic preparations and pigments are used, which do not have to, but may affect the safety of your child.

The possibility of cold sores after lip pigmentation treatment is not a serious complication, it is associated with taking antiviral drugs and visiting a doctor to heal.

Permanent makeup treatment is associated with stress, and as is well known, stress affects lactation. It may even get stopped. Referring to pregnancy, stress is a factor that should be avoided so that it does not affect the course of the pregnancy and the baby.

Due to the protective status of pregnant and lactating women, they were not subjected to any research confirming this thesis. I doubt if you, being pregnant, would undergo any experiment and risk the health of yourself and the baby, even if the occurrence of complications would be negligible.

The body reactions of a pregnant/breastfeeding woman after possible pigmentation are unpredictable, and during this period you are under special protection. Think about whether it's better to take a risk or wait an appropriate time and enjoy beautiful permanent makeup without putting yourself and your child at any risk.

How long should I wait to get permanent makeup done?

1. If you have recently given birth, but have not breastfed at all, I recommend waiting at least 3 months after giving birth or waiting till the first day of the cycle to start again

2. If you have stopped breastfeeding your baby, you should wait at least a month after weaning your baby.

3. In the event of a miscarriage, it is also advisable to wait at least 3 months.

Three months will allow your hormones to stabilise and your body will go through the initial phase of recovery. Hormones can have quite a significant effect on your skin. A hormonal imbalance can mean that your skin may be oilier/dryer than usual, you may experience breakouts and very often your skin is also more sensitive.

When it comes to Permanent Makeup treatments, you may experience poor retention or odd colour changes! So it's better to wait!

In the meantime, you are very welcome to visit me for a consultation whilst you’re pregnant/breastfeeding. We can have a talk about the Permanent Makeup treatments you’re interested in. I can perform a pre-drawing to visualise the perfect shape of your lips or brows, or maybe you will be happy to try a natural solution for your brows - Henna Powder.

Henna Powder Brows will stain the skin giving you tinted hairs for up to 6 weeks and a tint on the skin that can last anywhere from 2-10 days. It's a fantastic way to try out a shape before committing to semi-permanent makeup, or if you just want your eyebrows shaped and filled temporarily.
